This was news to me, but <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/18/AR2005061800070_pf.html">the WaPo</a> and <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/06/24/ramasastry.website.prices/">CNN</a> reported it in 2005. Some call it "price-customization" or "dynamic pricing;" others call it "<a href="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=amazon+price+discrimination&btnG=Google+Search">price discrimination</a>."
