After all, Plato said she was worthy of being considered not only as a poet but as a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muse">muse. </a>Sappho herself is a <a href="http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=palimpsest">palimpsest</a> or a sort of cypher. We know next to nothing about her -- including whether she was lesbian or not.
