[Warning: some links
NSFW] Callgirl and blogger Alexa DiCarlo had some questions raised about her authenticity dating back to
2008 and
2009, but her website RealPrincessDiaries.com (
archive.org cache) still attracted huge traffic and she was even named
the #1 sex blogger of 2010. A student at SFSU's
master's degree program in sexuality studies, she also volunteered her time providing sex education advice to teenagers online under the name Caitlain or Cathy. And she mentored newbie sex workers via e-mail, giving them pro tips and even sharing with them one of her top clients, Matt, whose identity and safety she vouched for.
But in true
Kaycee Nicole /
JT LeRoy style, it now turns out there
wasn't any "Alexa", "Caitlain", or "Cathy". Outed by the anonymous blog
Expose A Bro, combined with the anonymous twitter account
@ExposingAlexa, the real story has emerged. Alexa was apparently a married middle-aged guy named Pat, not a student at SFSU, had no formal training from which to be sharing "advice" (or naked photos!) with those teenagers online, and
he was the "client" that "Alexa" had sent to her protégées to sleep with...

Asia Snapshots "is a blog that examines topics in Asia through the perspectives of interesting people interviewed by a group of bloggers in Mainland China, Vietnam, Taiwan, and more." Meet
Gao Qingrong and family, who along with seven other households are part of
an organic farm co-op in Anlong Village, Sichuan. Or there's
the tale of how one of the bloggers met Jun Jun, a male prostitute in Beijing; an encounter with
Silang Laji, a road maintenance worker in Kham, a Tibetan region of China; and
Gege, an enterprising journalist in Chengdu.

An interview with the first male gigolo of the Shady Lady Ranch:
I think for a male, if you want to be successful in this type of venture, you're not a prostitute. You're a surrogate lover. You encompass everything that's required of you—not only emotionally, physically—but psychologically. Because women are wired differently. They're much more sensitive creatures. You actually have to enjoy what you do. You can't necessarily say, "Oh, it's just a job." You actually have to say it's a passion.
Background:
Nevada has legalized male prostitution (LATimes)

Two recent provocative articles about the the male-hooker-in-the-White-House-press-corps story:
An analysis from Monday's
Philly Inquirer asserts the flap is "far from over" and includes a cautionary quote: "The Bush people are challenging all the old assumptions about how to work the press. They are ambitious - visionary, if you will - in ways that Washington has yet to fathom." Meanwhile,
this Feb 24 blog post from lefty David Corn calls Gannon's alleged anti-gay articles "pretty tame stuff" that didn't "automatically qualify him for outing," and cautions knee-jerking progressives that "there is nothing inherently wrong with allowing journalists with identifiable biases to pose questions to the White House press secretary and even the president."

My Secret LIfe as a Prostitute -
A diary about my hidden life as an independent escort, erotic provider, prostitute, whore, call girl, hooker ... whatever you wish to call me.
Updated practically daily.
A truly fascinating read, probably NSFW, but no pictures save for the artistic one at the top and very little in the way of nasty sex-type words.

Whether she is called a
geisha, a
courtesan, a
prostitute, or a
dominatrix, women who make their living by
offering intimate, one-on-one companionship to men (sexually or otherwise- as is more often the case) have been around since
day one. Often
reviled,
marginalized, and
belittled, are they truly the
hapless victims and
social parasites they are often
portrayed as? Or is this sort of
profession really one of the few areas where an intelligent woman can achieve
financial security and prosperity, even in a
patriarchal society?
(note: I am well aware that sex is not normally part of the deal with geishas and dommes. However, they are frequently lumped in this category.)

The feel good story of the day. Cupcake Brown, a former prostitute and drug addict who nearly died alone on the streets, knew she would cry yesterday when she graduated from the University of San Francisco law school near the top of her class. She wasn't alone.
