The Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique reworked with original source samples It's called "Caught in the Middle of A 3-Way Mix" [MP3] and was created by DJs Cheeba, MoneyShot and Food. The nooks and crannies that the three DJs have discovered and connected are wonderfully revealing. They crack open tom tom beats swiped from Elvis Costello's "Pump It Up," blend sourced samples from Black Oak Arkansas, the Eagles and Tower of Power, swipe sounds from Led Zeppelin, the Meters and Johnny Cash, shock with the string screeches from Alfred Hitchcock's film composer Bernard Herrmann. And by mixing in commentary from recorded interviews with the Beasties themselves discussing the album's creation, the thing feels like some sort of sonic documentary. It goes without saying that this is also a tribute to Adam Yauch and the legacy he left behind and we hope it will be embraced by Beastie fans around the globe. Cover art. Sarah Fimm wants to inspire people to use their creative talents to promote human rights. To that end, she's encouraging people to take portions of her and fellow artists' works Everything Becomes Whole" - music, lyrics, images and music video - to create new presentations focusing attention on ending slavery. In this age of fair use hyper concern and monitoring of the sharing of artists works by the RIAA and record labels, to have an artist actively asking people to "Download the raw stems and build your own remix" is refreshing. I've found some examples of others permitting it, but am not aware of other artists using it as a form of promoting a cause. Sarah's grandmother is a survivor of the holocaust, which may explain her personal interest in INSPIRE, her new effort to promote awareness and action against slavery. She is working with photographer Heyrik Chasse and videographer Erik Montovano.

Back in 09', Star Wars Uncut (previously) asked people to recreate 15 second chunks of Star Wars: A New Hope however they wanted, using live action, animation, text adventure screens, SCUMM interfaces, costumed pets, and more. Now they've been edited together to recreate the entire movie as a homemade, constantly shifting media experiment. (Vimeo link)
