Address is Approximate. "A lonely desk toy longs for escape from the dark confines of the office, so he takes a cross country road trip to the Pacific Coast in the only way he can – using a toy car and Google Maps Street View."

Pop Pilgrims : "When the AV Club Travels, we always make time to visit pop culture landmarks. If something memorable happened in the world of film, tv, books, or music, we want to go there. We're not just tourists, we're

Today is the first day of summer, and for many Americans that means taking a road trip with the family. For Barry Stiefer, it means visiting all
50 states (48 by car), while only taking one week of vacation time.

One hot June morning in 1953, a retired couple from western Missouri packed their Chrysler New Yorker with 11 suitcases and started driving east. A few hours later, they stopped at a diner in Hannibal, Mo., and ordered fruit plates and iced tea.
“We thought we were getting by big as an unknown traveling couple until we went to the counter to pay the bill,” Harry Truman later wrote of that lunch. “Just as we arose from the table some county judges came in and the incog was off.”
And thus began an excellent adventure of a type that happened once and will never happen again:
The Harry and Bess Truman Ex-Presidential Road Trip.

"Papa" John Schnatter loved his old
Camaro so much he couldn't bear to watch it drive away after he sold it, but he used the proceeds of the sale to start a restaurant business (which ended up
going pretty well). To celebrate the 25th anniversary of starting his restaurant, he traveled the US to thank his employees and search for his lost car. Surprisingly,
he found it, bought it back and to celebrate he's giving everyone with a Camaro
a free pizza tomorrow. (Aug. 26th)

Roadside Architecture. "I have been passionate about commercial architecture and roadside related things all my life. I grew up in California but New York City has been my home since 1980. I started this website in 2000 simply as a way to organize my own photos. Since then, it has become a bit of an obsession and grown to well over 1,000 pages."

Jonson takes pictures of The Salton Sea, which is a
strange place, like some kind of huge, perpetual,
Burning Man, but by a
huge, salty, polluted, manmade lake with
distant shores,
dying fish,
has-been resort towns,
Salvation Mountain,
fundie dinos,
fountains of youth, and
nice churches.

Follow the Rhinos Weblog tracking two white Rhinos as they travel next month to the Phoenix Zoo. Nice looking site (via
CSS Vault). In related news, poachers have killed about half of the world's population of wild white rhinos in the last year (

Bowling to Vegas! Four drunk bowling fanatics from Chicago are bowling their way across country....apparently for lack of anything better to do(looks like a couple of them are unemployed). Also, they're trying to restore dignity to the good old-fashioned Road Trip(and, of course, bowling). Why bowl to Vegas instead of fly? As
Mike says: "It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. Nobody has respect for the road trip anymore. Haven't you people seen
Fandango?" Follow their progress across country, and
buy 'em a round.

How many different Starbucks outlets in North America have
you been to? Less than 3,381? If so,
this guy has you beat. See Winter's caffeine-propelled
roadtrip stats and peruse his mind-numbing
photo gallery.
Do not try this at home; you WILL end up looking like this.

Two men are flying a Cessna from South Africa to Alaska. "When I'm feeling romantic, I like to think of us as a modern-day Lewis and Clark (or maybe Huck and Jim), two guys on a once-in-a-lifetime aerial road trip. But there's more to it than that. Amid the mundane details and daily routine inside the Cessna cabin, I expect there to be unforeseen revelations and epiphanies – about the world seen this unique way and perhaps about ourselves." Driving home last night I passed a
Land Rover. Not just any Land Rover, mind you, but a Land Rover headed from
Virginia to the tip of South America and back. Not only did these people implement some considerable
alterations to the vehicle, they are
blogging the details of the trip along the way. Nice to see some people come out of the 'bubble' with a bit of money and the gumption to chase their dreams.
