My name's not Brian! Ryan Adams gives a fan a refund and asks him to leave a concert when said fan asks him to play "Summer of '69". Have you ever been to a concert where the performer lost it at the audience? I guess even folk rockers can be divas...

"Hell, I still love you New York." (WMA or RA) I've been seeing the video for Ryan Adams' "New York, New York" late at night on VH1. At a time when television censors are editing out images of the World Trade Center and words like "hijack" out of old movies, it is a welcome surprise. The video, filmed on Sept. 7th, has a pre-attack NY skyline with the WTC prominently featured. It's the best tribute to NY I've seen in the last couple of months.

A label showcase. Last night Ryan Adams and the band Dolly Varden played at a small club called Les Etoiles, near Chateau d'Eau, in Paris. Adams was good, simple, one-man-and-his-guitar-and-piano moody melancholy rock; he used to be the frontman for Whiskeytown. Adams was not as upbeat as I'd expected, but the opening act, Dolly Varden, though only two of the five members made it to France, played appealing countryish two-person songs with strong vocals and simple instrumentation.
