In 2003, Paramount proposed redoing the special effects for the original "Star Trek" series and rereleasing the episodes as
"Star Trek Enhanced". Two CGI firms
redid the effects for the teaser, the opening credits and title, and the first two acts of
The Doomsday Machine as a proof-of-concept with no changes to the acting or the story. Paramount ultimately decided not to pursue the project, but it's interesting to see how two different CGI firms handled the transporter, phasers, and starship effects.

U.S.S. Enterprise analyzed. "For StarTrek [sic] fans we tested the USS Enterprise in our super-orbital expansion tube... We perform similar tests on other models investigating dissociation and ionisation processes which occur during atmospheric re-entry."

Steampunk. The result is a wonderful universe with a
rich history where Her Majesty's Aether Ships explore the solar system and protect the United Kingdom of Planets. Long live Queen Victoria, and may her glorious reign continue as it has
for the past 165 years! (preserved by Lunar Selenite technology captured from the evil Moon-dwellers).
