Your screensaver is boring.
Electric Sheep(Linux, OSX) produces animated flame fractals rendered via distributed computation.
n 0 time(Win) draws its data from things such as a custom word list, cached web site text, your favorites, or your cookies.
The Bank of Time(Win2k-, OS9-) grows plants based on your idle time connected to the net.
Dirty Fingerprints(Win) leaves fingerprints all over your screen, generated by user clicks on contributing sites. Or, if you really want, you can join in the effort to
crack various encryption methods(most systems) at Distributed.net.
Deskswap(
prev. link) has unfortunately been offline for months, due to bandwidth issues.

HOP draws beautiful abstract images and real-time animations, based on "strange attractor" formulas, enhanced by mathematical and graphical special effects. It's a unique interactive fractal generator, but doubles as a cute screensaver if you're feeling lazy
(runs in DOS/windows).

It's not After Dark or "starfield simulation." Not by a long shot. Refresh has comprised a set of rather artistic and inspired screen savers.

If you think that the monitor screens in Star Trek are cool looking, then you must check out this
Screen Saver! Very well done. Mac version soon.

What comes After Dark? Apparently ten years is long enough for
Berkeley Systems to keep developing the modular screen saver that we all know and love. With the release of Mac OS 9, those strangely captivating Flying Toasters will no longer flutter by on our dimmed screens. Say, whatever happened to Confetti Factory anyway?
