Professional philosophers have long known that there are far fewer women in philosophy than there are men. (Some quick info.
) Recently, this issue has taken center-stage in the philosophy blogosphere. First, a new study
suggests that gender plays a role in what intuitions one has to philosophical thought experiments, such as the Gettier cases
about knowledge, and The Trolley Problem
related to ethics (via
). Second, a new blog, What is it like to be a woman in philosophy?
, has exploded
as it shows the good
, the bad
, and the downright ugly
involved in being a woman in the profession. [more inside]

When a Duke graduate documented her sexual hookups with a series of University baseball and lacrosse players during her time there, she thought only her close friends would see it. But the list, a PowerPoint presentation which includes names, pictures, and extremely detailed ratings of the men she had sex with, spread beyond that circle of friends and has since gone viral. A few days ago, it was posted to Jezebel
, both part of the Gawker Media. Deadspin initially failed to redact the names or pictures of those named within to protect their privacy, prompting an angry response
and leading others to speculate if this "privacy landmine
" will eventually lead to lawsuits

Choice of Broadsides
is a choose-your-own-adventure game set in an alternate 19th Century world that is much like our own, where Albion and Gaul fight for naval supremacy. You can choose to be a gentleman in a standard patriarchal society, or a gentlewoman in a matriarchal one. Later on in the game you can choose your sexual orientation. Originally there were no options for a same-sex relationship, but after demands from players, it was added in

Why does Team Jacob always have to lose? Because Eclipse is a movie about rejecting adulthood, not just as a person but also as a culture. It's about rejecting adult relationships between men and women, but also between people of different races and between people from the city (like Victoria's army) and people from Forks. It's about never crossing boundaries, never leaving home.

What counts as sex?
A group of researchers at the University of Kentucky-Lexington, thinks that Bill Clinton’s famous assertion
that he “did not have sexual relations” with Monica Lewinsky may be the reason so many young people today don’t consider oral sex to count as doing the deed.
The study "Sex Redefined: The Reclassification Of Oral-Genital Contact"PDF
which was conducted in 2007 and published this month in the journal Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health, surveyed 477 students enrolled in a human sexuality course at a large state university about their views on sex. What they found was that only 20 percent of those students considered oral-genital contact to be sex, compared with nearly 40 percent of a similar group of students surveyed in 1991.

We are two women from different worlds with very different experiences. I, Annie, have performed in, directed and produced pornography for twenty five years. Mae Tyme has been anti-pornography for equally as long. We met at a lesbian video night several years ago. You might think that we'd be enemies, because we have such different viewpoints. Could we come together to record a conversation
, share our ideas, and show that women of desparate [sic] backgrounds and beliefs can communicate and collaborate?
