Take some time over your daily grind.

"One of the biggest examples of the planned obsolescence of modern American capitalism...is the razor. The two blade razor, then the three blade razor, then the five blade razor. Um, these things are okay but...mostly not good. You've gotta go counterintuitive..." And if you get into it, of course there are modern day authorities on the subject, who'll learn ya good.

And if you get even more into it, forget not, this is the internet - so...

Above all, the vibe I seem to get from the wet shaving community is a sense of damn genuine pleasure to be had in an activity that many regard as an inconvenient chore. There's joy to be had in something most people blaze through as quickly as possible just to get to work reasonably on time. And I've mentioned my love for safety razors to many, and many think that I must be mad to trust my face to such old technology. To them I say: Cary Grant was one finely shaven son of a bitch, wasn't he?

Mefi thought about this some years ago too.

Stop The Madness!

The technology seemed so harmless at first. But as in any war, there was escalation. The pursuit of pointless perfection in shaving comfort now offers our beards only insanity.

And now the multiblade wars have spilled over into electrics! Will these shaving firms not be satisfied until they've peeled the skin from our chins? Tell you the truth, I'd rather grow a beard.

Just Another Twig On The Evolutionary Bush: Beards and moustaches are out; even goatees are the butt of jokes; eyebrows are being plucked into Rotring-size oblivion; female pubic hair has forever renounced natural - even tropical - splendour, to be replaced by ridiculous geometric designs... Have we perhaps taken this naked ape thing too damn far? [For the record, I am gratefully in favour of all these trends, except for the pubic hair. As a Lusitanian, I deplore that the good name of Brazil has come to be associated with such a travesty.]

Another web widget I have to add to my blog to stay cool? No, it's another moustache-growing contest, organized to support "The Institute of Cancer Research's national campaign to raise awareness and funding for male cancers". What do moustaches have to do with "male cancers"? Don't ask. Why did I say "another"? Because the biennial World Beard and Moustache Championships are coming to Carson City, Nevada, November 1st. Of course some media have already given this man the title of "World's Longest Moustache" (at least those who paid him $5 to take his picture).
