Taking Over Planet Earth

On February 2, 1981, an experimental New Romantic band from Birmingham released their first single. It was the beginning of the still-continuing, at times tumultuous, hugely successful tenure of Duran Duran. From 33 years ago: Planet Earth. B-side for the single was Late Bar, or in the US was To The Shore. Plus the Planet Earth (Night Version) extended remake.
This was the first of many, many singles from Duran Duran. [more inside]

DD @ MoMA

Last night, following the Museum of Modern Art's screen of Duran Duran: Unstaged, Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, and Roger Taylor took the stage for a 30 minute long conversation and Q&A session with the audience. The session was streamed live online, and continues to be available for viewing via LiveStream and MoMA. The conversation ranges from appreciation for David Lynch to art directors and designers they have worked with to Peter Gabriel's recent So anniversary tour, to mention a few topics. It's Sunday night, I am curled up in my room / The TV light fills my heart like a balloon

In 1999, 23-year-old singer-songwriter Bree Sharp recorded "David Duchovny," a fangirl ode to the male star of The X-Files. After the demo tape proved popular in Duchovny's trailer, two X-Files assistants created a celebrity-filled music video as a gag for the show Christmas party. A grainy bootleg of the video quickly went pre-Youtube-viral among X-Philes. Twelve years later, a high-definition version of the "David Duchovny" video sees daylight for the first time.
