The Simpsons Has A New Opening Sequence

After 20 years and 429 episodes, The Simpsons has updated its opening title sequence. Here it is. This marks the second time that The Simpsons has changed its opening sequence. Here's the original (sorta) opening from Season One. Season Two started the more familiar opening titles which ran until now. There has, of course, also been a few other one-off opening sequence changes, such as the real-life opening sequence (previously), the first TV opening sequence after the movie premiered and the shortened version (and that's not even including all the couch gags and blackboard jokes) but this one is apparently permanent.

What would Simpsons characters look like in Real Life? Something like this.

The talk show host, Miss Oprah Winfrey is illegally invading my privacy to promote show ideas on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Further, each time I gather evidence of proof, she pays people with her talk show earnings money to bribe them to destroy evidence. Many more complaints to the FCC about selected tv shows here.

Dear torrent seeder: I am the producer of a motion picture. This is not a case-and-desist order. I am writing to thank you. Jerome Bixby's The Man From Earth succeeds through sharing. Jerome Bixby never quite achieved the recognition he deserved, despite writing a deeply chilling short story (lauded by the Science Fiction Writers of America as one of the 20 best SF stories ever written) that was turned into an episode of The Twilight Zone and, decades later, became a segment in the Twilight Zone movie itself, generating a sequel ... and spoofed in The Simpson's "Treehouse of Horror II" special. Bixby also created the Mirror Universe concept in Star Trek, co-wrote the screenplay for "Fantastic Voyage" (now itself being remade), and wrote "It! The Terror From Beyond Space", which became the inspiration for "Alien". On his deathbed in April of 1998 Bixby completed the screenplay for "The Man From Earth". Almost 20 years later, his son produced a small independent film of the work. Like most such films, distribution was small, and marketing low-key. The movie had a short run, and was quickly pulled from theaters. Inevitably, a torrent of an awards screener DVD of the film was released, spawning an interest in the movie that eluded it commercially.

Hillary Clinton as Lisa Simpson!? Not sure if I put my finger on it, but that's my impression reading some excerpts from letters Hillary Clinton wrote to a high school friend whilst in college. I've been entertaining Barack Obama as Lincoln -- an impression he's actively cultivated (so, another Simpsons tie-in :) -- and I welcome uncanned glimpses into candidates' formative years to get a better idea of their 'character' (as if they're running on character and 'bio') so it was great to read her reminisce on her childhood: "I'd play out in the patch of sunlight that broke the density of the elms in front of our house and pretend there were heavenly movie cameras watching my every move."

"Oh, boy, sleep! That's where I'm a viking!" From the Simpsons episode "Lisa the Vegetarian," one small Ralph Wiggum line that's sparked some big debate on the internet. Does Ralph use "Viking" to mean "One who excels"? Or does Ralph dream of being a Scandinavian warrior? Not content to keep it online, people are calling radio shows (June 5th's episode, around the 49 minute mark) to gain support for their opinion. Perhaps only the show's writer, David Cohen, can settle this.
