Japanese Horror Film Ghoul Makes a Friend, [SLYT] all thanks to Winnipeg's Hot Thespian Action. [Earworm-trigger warning: Hall & Oates]

In the cold open for this week's RadioLab (Loops), Jesse Thorn (MeFi's own) commemorates one of the craziest, most unconventional comedy bits in modern memory: Kristen Schaal and Kurt Braunohler's "Kristen Schaal is a Horse", a sketch that starts out funny, then turns decidedly un-funny, then becomes hilarious. Ten minute version. Schaal on The Sound of Young America.

"Eggs? Yeah, we fix 'em. Well, are they broken all the way or are they just cracked? OK, well that's good, just bring 'em right in..." The year: 1984. The sketch: "Roy's Food Repair". The stars: John Candy, Valri Bromfield, Dave Thomas, Carrie Fisher, and Paul Simon. The show: a short-lived NBC comedy variety program produced by Lorne Michaels called The New Show. [more inside]

That’s so weird! is a Canadian sketch comedy series on YTV. Pitched at the young teen audience, anyone who likes their humour broad and zany will enjoy this. Some favourite sketches are Daniel Book (a 17-but-still-7 Daniel Cook), Logan and Wilf (teen boys parodied) and the Cafeteria Ladies. The show was recently picked up by Boomerang Latin America and Nickelodeon Australia. A whole new generation of Canuck sketch comedy takes off, eh?

Clell Tickle: Indie Marketing Guru. 3 Conversations with Maya Arulpragasam. Partisan Jab. Other Music. The Shittiest Mixtape Ever Contest. Lie Girls. etc. Ever since GooTube, we've been hearing about how online video will propel a new generation of talent to superstardom, but so far it's seemed mostly hype. Tonight, after literally decades of climbing the online video charts, Aziz, Rob, Paul, Jason and Bobbe'J make their MSM debut in MTV's The Human Giant.

The Night Andy Kaufman Sabotaged After Michael Richards flipped out at the Laugh Factory, some speculated that Kramer had an "Andy Kaufman moment" gone horribly wrong, but did you know that Richards was once a target of Kaufman's humor himself? On February 20, 1981, Andy Kaufman hosted ABC's late night comedy show, Fridays , but refused to stay on script during the live Broadcast. After deliberately blowing lines in several sketches, Kaufman instigated a fight during one sketch, by pouring water on Fridays cast member, Michael Richards. The next year, ratings for Fridays were so low that they asked Kaufman to host a second time to boost ratings. (More inside.)

A Week of Kindness is an online sketch comedy group; among their bits, I found Nature Footage: The Musical to be the most amusing (albeit, a bit of a one note symphony).

"Kids in the Hall: Braincandy" is finally being released on DVD today! Sadly, it appears to be barren of any added extras, interviews or commentaries. This release is only just making me more anxious for the criminally underrated "The Wrong Guy" (starring and co-written by KITH member Dave Foley) that is scheduled to come out on September 24th. It is a must see for Kids in the Hall fans and the troops absurd brand of humour. (I won't even get into my insane anticipation for the perpetually postponed Mr.Show movie "Run Ronnie Run!")
