Commuting Canadian style. Snowboarder Seb Toots (
Sebastien Toutant) took advantage of the late December blizzard in Montréal by taking his board to a good launch spot on Mont Royal (
Kondiaronk Lookout, according to one Vimeo commenter) and working his way down. Elegant, fluid, hypnotic.
Note: Some wildlife may have been briefly bemused or alarmed during the making of this film. No wildlife attempted to eat him.

Double Full Full Full, annotated (NYT video, reg REq'd) U.S. Olympic Team aerial skier Ryan St. Onge and a science reporter describe via video the physics going on as he executes a triple backflip with four twists.
Also, the
snowboard halfpipe.
(Don't ask me why a triple backflip with four twists is called a "double full full full")

New Extreme Sports. Mega ramp skateboarding, ostrich racing, underwater golfing, pole dancing and pillow fighting are just a few of the innovative new sports you may see in future
X Games. (via

Are you a snowboarder without snow, a surfer without surf or a skate rat sick of concrete? Grab a
Scarpar (as soon as they're available) and hit the...
trails. Or, if you prefer a nonmotorized offroad shredding experience, try a
mountainboard. Just try really hard
not to
fall.

Avalanche transceivers have become an essential piece of technology for people who spend time in avalanche terrain. Beacons, as they're also known, operate on an international standard frequency and can be used to find other transceivers (hopefully still attached to people) buried under snow, giving rescuers a chance to find victims before they suffocate. Powderlog, the snowboarder's weblog looks like the first specialized weblog I'm really going to like. It seems more portal-esque than a weblog, but that's ok. I wish it were customizable though, I'd love to be able to have the links to my local resorts in the sidebar. Oh yeah, that reminds me, I'm going to code the ability to customize the floating link thing this week.
