Hell has frozen over. Rumor has it that Disney is planning to re-release (on DVD) it's 1946 animated feature Song of the South which hasn't seen the light of day since 1986 in the fall of '06. The Oscar winning film was originally tucked away due to racially charged material that painted a grossly inaccurate picture of slavery and the south during reconstruction. There goes another EBAY market.

Song of the South has been withheld by Disney since 1986. Based on Joel Chandler Harris' Uncle Remus tales, it depicts Reconstruction-era Georgia through Disney-tinted glasses. It won an Oscar for its song "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah," but will we ever see this classic again?

Now I Get It
Ugh. Disney made the cartoon equivalent of Hillary Rosen reading your kids a bedtime story. Perhaps succeeding episodes can explain why we should all buy DVD reissues of Disney films. Or extol the virtues of Song of the South. (from Plastic)
