The origin of the word is unknown, but it seems likely to come from the classic R&amp;B song <a href="http://www.thepeaches.com/music/randb/DrinkinWineSpoDeeODee.htm">"Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee"</a> by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stick_McGhee">Stick McGhee</a>, which in 1949, was the <a href="http://www.history-of-rock.com/atlantic_records.htm">first big hit record for Atlantic Records</a>.
