The last time any party had a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate was 1977-1979. With Arlen Specter's announcement that he is switching parties and Al Franken's recent court victory all but guaranteeing his victory in Minnesota, the Democrats will have a filibuster-proof 60 seats in the Senate. Eight years ago, Jim Jeffords switched parties to change control of the Senate from a 50-50 tie (resolved by VP Cheney in favor of the GOP) to Democratic control. While this might be a cause of celebration for Democrats, this recent history of switching should point out the fragility of the coalition. The one Senator to switch away from the Democrats, Joe "Joementum" Lieberman still caucuses with the party. Suddenly every Democratic Senator has the ability to hold out with the credible threat that they will leave and destroy the super majority.

Diplo (Wesly Pentz) has a short interview/bio on The Guardian, including a guide to his best collaborations, spanning from Never Scared as Hollertronix (Diplo + Low Budget), to M.I.A.'s mixtape "Piracy Funds Terrorism" (it's true!), up to his forthcoming work with Switch as Major Lazer. It's supposed to be manipulated to make it sound all alienweirdness, i obviously can't sing haha." - AMilonakis Diplo released one album, Florida (title track video), but has spent most of his time since that as a globe-trotting producer. Along with his label Mad Decent, he started Heaps Decent, which was initially an Australian initiative to that "intends to seek out young indigenous and underprivileged artists and change Australian club music forever." Diplo and crew make the beats, and the kids sing. The first track was Smash a Kangaroo. The second was Koori Girls. Now Mad Decent chappie Paul Devro is working with Bappi Lahiri (IMDB) to extend extend Heaps Decent to India, which got noticed by local reporters.

Switch. Apple launches its first major ad campaign since "Think Different". Rather than preaching to the converted, it's gunning for the other 90% -- the unhappy Windows users. Can Apple double its marketshare to 10% as Steve Jobs is hoping? Does this represent a less smug, more aggressive Apple? Are you considering switching, or have you switched already?
