This Must Be Designed By Idiots is an online art exhibit of three Amsterdam-based mixed media artists, where one of the media is taxidermy, and the other is some disturbing combination of fashion design, jewelry, glassblowing & handicrafts. The end result is compellingly creepy, and my personal favorite is this piece, a mouse permanently at rest inside the glass belly of a glass cat.

Of all the humorous stuffed rodents in the "novelties" section of customcreaturetaxidermy.com, I can't decide whether my favorite is the squirrel full o'whiskey (with the removable head for decanting) or the "mouse trap gag" (see, the gag is, it looks like a disgusting dead mouse in a trap, when in reality... oh, wait...).

Rogue taxidermists (more exhibit photos at Creative Electric Studios) abide by strict a non-violence policy. Not to be confused with plush urban beasts, almost none of the animals used in the taxidermy were killed expressly for the purpose of mounting. Specimens are collected as roadkill, gifted to the taxidermist by friends, gifted after natural deaths by pet stores, or purchased from scientific supply companies.
