If you were a <b>big</b> fan of The Sandman then perhaps you stumbled upon <a href="http://theory.lcs.mit.edu/~wald/sandman-index.html">The Sandman annotations</a>, a comprehensive resource covering the historical, folkloric and religious/mythological references - page by page, panel by panel - found within the storyline.
