Twiplomacy is the first-ever global study of world leaders on Twitter. The governments of almost two-thirds of the 193 UN member countries have a presence on Twitter: 45% of the 264 accounts analysed are personal accounts of heads of state and government, but just 30 world leaders tweet themselves and very few on a regular basis.
This study shows that while the social network invites direct interaction between users, few world leaders take advantage of this opportunity to develop connections.

Sometimes politicians say something stupid on Twitter, and then delete the tweet.
Politwoops re-publishes those tweets.

Talking Points Memo has put together an excellent resource for keeping up with happenings in Washington.
Whatever else Twitter might be, we've found it a good way to keep tabs on politicos and reporters, what they're doing, saying and so forth. Pols make unguarded or revealing statements, sometimes just helpful heads-ups on events or statements; reporters give early tips on stories. And just atmospherically you can get a feel for what certain groups of people are thinking and talking about.
With that, enjoy Twitter feeds aggregated at TPM for
Elected Democrats on Capitol Hill,
Elected Republicans on Capitol Hill,
Democratic and liberal insiders,
Republican and conservative insiders, and
reporters and bloggers.
