Any Top 100 list of UK comedy shows has the famous Two Ronnies "Four Candles" sketch in the top ten. Silly word play, songs and Ronnie Barker's fabulous timing, made them TV blockbusters for 16 years. Presenting a brief youtube linkdump... Mastermind : Answering the question before last Round of Drinks (ignore the painful preable) Swear Box Crossed Lines Aldershot Brasss Ensemble Second Guesser Your Nuts My Lord Father of the Bride and finally, the Two Ronnies + Stephen fry reworking an old Frost Report sketch... I look up to him

Plans are afoot for a US version of Spaced the seminal British zeitgeisty eve-of-the-Millennium sitcom that packed in huge numbers of film homages while turning the traditional man-and-woman-in-flatshare sitcom scenario on its head. The makers went on to make Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Fox have announced vague plans for a US version, brought to you by McG - the man who directed Charlie’s Angels and didn’t make Superman Returns because he was too scared to fly on a plane to Australia - and some guy called Adam Barr. So far, the original creators of Spaced haven’t been consulted.

For those of us who thought the BBC's mammoth self- marketing campaigns were one of the symptions of modern marketing excess, a trawl on the Internet has turned up this John Cleese-presented advertisment on What Have the BBC Ever Given Us?. And it being the BBC, Spitting Image have the right of rebuttal... Hark back to a golden age when the licence fee was only £55, alternative comedy was cool enough to be mentioned on mainstream television (albeit from the toilet) - and more importantly, pubs weren't decked out in steel chrome. For all us TV archivists, can you tell me what year this was from? Bob Geldof witters on about Live Aid, so it's certainly post 1985...
