If you're looking for some uplifting dance music to help you get your week going, Goldroom's
Otoño Mix 2011 is a very soulful nu-disco collection that pairs nicely with The Magician's
Magic Tape Sixteen. Need something with more energy? Edwin van Cleef's
November mix is a bit more hands in the air, perfectly suited for the elimination of afternoon doldrums.

"What would be it like to go a day without spending any money? I've thought about this before but I've never considered actually trying it. I couldn't imagine going a day without spending a single penny -- is that even possible? How would I get from A to B? What about food? Turns out, a day of living expense free is possible and you'd be surprised by the overwhelming sense of satisfaction and feeling of elation that comes from it. "
The Huffington Post's Alexa van Tobel tells the astonishing and empowering tale of
How I Went 24 Hours Without Spending Any Money...In New York City.
Unfortunately, "this experiment is unsustainable for a long period of time."

Want to avoid debt in grad school? You could follow the example of
this guy and live in a van.

Dunny - an eleven-year-old boy tries to give a love letter to a girl that doesn't like him and winds up at dinner with her suburban family. This is one of those short films that you either love right away from the opening scene or....well, demand you 10 minutes back. If you are not sure, try other works by the same director:
Phillip Van.

“In the condition I was in, it assumed at the time the quality of a beacon, a light on the far shores of the murk; what's more, it was proof that there was something left to express artistically besides nihilism and destruction.” Lester Bangs on the topic of
Van Morrison's Astral Weeks which began recording exactly 40 years ago today in Century Sound Studios NYC.

In a time before the Prius, the custom conversion van ruled the roadways. Pushing the
boundaries of the airbrush form, testing the limits of
mobile interior design, featuring the latest in
automatic pink leather bed,
compact toaster, 8-track, and
love machine technology, the 70s van was celebrated in
song and
cinema. You started with
a factory model, new or used, and ended at a place limited onlyby your creativity, your budget, and your
old lady's patience (NSFW). Ford could
make you a man.If push came to shove, you could even
live in your van. It was fantasy on wheels:
van-tastic, man.

Pavement Terror! Do you jump out of your skin whenever a car backfires? Just hope this guy didn't catch you on film. Interesting photos of people reacting to his backfiring van.

Van Explodes In Northwest Parking Lot Breaking news - not sure if this is just a sad accident, or ...
A friend who works in the area said that the place is swarming with cops, and FBI guys. Has anyone else heard anything? Nothing on any of the majors yet. Could be because this will turn out to be minor.
