In a first-person tale of woe, a beleaguered New Yorker stranded in the Land of Lard related his
struggle to find adequate vegetarian options [NYT link, featuring obligatory pic of sullen, obese Midwesterners]. Reactions came swiftly, albeit
indirectly [also NYT] since, curiously, the article itself lacks a comment section.
Best comment: the one touting the multiple and tasty options, including veggie dogs and veggie chili on coney dogs, at the dive bar just across the street from the KC Star. Despite an apparent unfamiliarity with such staples as grilled cheese sandwiches, the cub reporter's failure
probably won't keep him down for long. [more inside]

Vegan Dad: "When you have kids, supper has to be on the table every night. And when you are a vegan, the drive-thru, the deli
counter, and TV dinners/frozen convenience foods are not an option. So, you do the best you can. This blog is a record of what my family eats. It's not always a totally complete meal, not always photogenic, and sometimes it's leftovers. But, it is a realistic look at a vegan family in a northern Ontario city that is not always vegan-friendly."

VeganMoFo 2009! Started as a riff on NaNoWriMo, Veganmofo challenges food blogs to go vegan for October. Kitteekake is hosting the index. If you've ever been curious about vegan cooking, it's a damn fine place to start.

SF Chronicle article about a condition that I have seen but didn't know had a name. . . .
Orthorexia Nervosa. . .The
obsessive quest for healty food. . .I would suspect that your average computer-active person would NOT experience this condition but perhaps you know someone or perhaps live with someone who could be described in this way. . .
