review of Alone in the Dark. Dr. Uwe Boll is developing quite a
reputation as a
terrible film director; and ruiner of valuable intellectual property with his videogame adaptations.
Something Awful's look behind the scenes of Alone in the Dark makes for grim reading: "
I know English is not his first language, but Jesus Christ, I'm not even sure this man has a first language", but for many the
trailer was enough to put people off.
According to Wikipedia, "he is currently in a bidding war for rights to Half-Life and Metal Gear Solid, and ... may be after the rights to Fallout and Castlevania as well". Before legions of gamers collapse under the strain, you should know it isn't all bad news. He isn't without
fans; and
Boll is apparently an
active member of online discussion forums including imdb and
IGN; so it is possible to tell him that he sucks directly; not that doing so has had any effect thus far.

Tarkovsky's Stalker coming as video game in 2003. I always wondered how long it would take for a more artistically-informed bunch to come to the $18B/year video game market (bigger than Hollywood). Will our generation have its video-game counterparts to Faulkner and Fitzgerald? A David Foster Wallace or Don Delillo authored game? Are there other video games that can stand up as "Art?"

Curiouser and curiouser... They are talking of making a movie based on the new game, of which some of us enjoyed the recently released
demo. Since I thought the mood of the game was better than its playability (granted, I have yet to find a game whose playability satifies me), this could be pretty cool.

Separated at Birth?
Angelina Jolie has been chosen to play
Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider movie. I must say that from the neck up, she's actually a pretty good choice. (From the neck down, no woman alive measures up.)
The only problem is that Ms. Jolie is California, not England. I wonder how well she can do an English accent.
"Val Girl Lara" just doesn't make it.
