Everyone hates Ben Bernanke

Columbia Business School doesn't like Ben Bernanke. The Previous Link is a Music Video from Columbia Business School. No Billy Joel, but it is a music parody. You might not like music parodies which is A-Okay, but this is a financial focused music parody from a business school improv group. It made me smile wanely a few times, but I still enjoyed it. You might not. I am sorry if you do not. If you don't, maybe you would like a video about munchkin kittens. They are very kittens with very short legs, similiar to Dachsunds. Some might lament the deliberate breeding of what could be perceived as a non-desired mutation. Either way, they are extremely cute and can live full and healthy lives. But I digress. This guy also dislikes Ben Bernanke. This link is a humorous and painfully accurate view on the existing rate cuts. It is very snarky but does not express glee at the financial troubles that people are having. Laments the plight of the middle class but does not bash anyone in the current political race. Might contain some obscenities towards fat-cats and bankers.

AHHHH!!! An unintentional disruption pre-empted morning radio and television throughout Illinois this week when a FEMA contractor mistakenly sent the highest level of alert codes (Presidential) through the Emergency Alert System during the installation of an upgrade. (A year to the day after the upgrades were ordered) It's not the first time false warnings have been sent. Apparently (before the upgrades) the EAS data headers had no authentication and someone could have hacked a t.v. or radio station using a Mr. Microphone. The old Emergency Broadcast System had an authenticator word list, like the tone, and the voice, the words themselves were slightly unsettling. I know the old EBS tests used to scare the hell out of me. The 1971 false alarm was initiated with the code word: HATEFULNESS.

The Australian cigarette health warnings have pretty much filtered down to every retail packet that's bought now. They're pretty gruesome and some smoking acquaintances cover them up with stickers. I thought I'd have a look around and see what other countries warnings were like. None of them were pulling any punches except for Uruguay.

Strattera could make you commit suicide. Earlier today it was announced that Paxil could cause cause birth defects (scroll down). Now Strattera (an ADHD drug) is on the list of "wonder drugs" that could have serious consequences. Is it really worth it to visit Dr. Feelgood just to find out later that it really did more damage than good?

Illinois issues its first ever winter dirty-air alert today. For the first time ever in the winter, health officials are issuing a dirty-air alert for the midwest. "Even healthy adults and children are cautioned against heavy physical activity outdoors." This is something the Clean Air Act sought to prevent in 1990. Despite real world warnings like this - there still seems to be constant debate about how much we should really care about environmental issues such as global warming and a host of other environmental issues. Will the new Clear Skies Act be enough to help?

What does Wille Brown's staff know that we don't? Apparently, Mayor Brown got a warning 8 hours before the attack, and is still in SF because he heeded their advice. What did they know and how did they know it?
