Watchismo is a blog dedicated to portable timepieces, spotlighting the spectacularly
beautiful (and spectacularly
expensive), among the rare handcrafted artifacts such as this watch made from
wood, or this one made from
bone. [

Making a watch by hand. In these days of “fast” and “convenient” I decided to commence a work of “painstaking” and “craftsmanship”, making my own wristwatch. I have had the idea for a certain arrangement of the watch dial, as on the image at the right, for a while now. My investigations into available movements showed that no production movement would give me this layout. After a long period of indecision and wondering what I was really getting myself into I decided to make my own movement, followed by the case and dial.

Is Bill Gates behind the times? (NYT link - reg req'd) Microsoft today introduced designs for "a new class of watch" which can "provide weather information, text messages and other data." The simplest versions "will cost less than $150," the story says.
But Timex currently offers its own, cheaper version:
the Internet Messenger Watch for only US$50, and a year's free service, for almost the same features.
Is Microsoft actually
behind the times with their 'innovation'? Is this embarrassing for the software giant?

(as seen on /.) A new
wristwatch from Casio that doubles as a MP3 player. Seems goofy at first, but I'd love to have something that small to listen to music while running. It beats a walkman or Rio any day in terms of size, why carry one of those when you can have tunes on your wrist? (
now if I just hook up some speakers in a baseball cap :)
