In Their Boots is a new online "magazine show" about the impact of the wars on US servicemembers and their families. The latest episode features the founder of the American Widow Project, a new documentary and an organization dedicated to helping out other war widows across the country.

"It was so peaceful a death, that I felt its reproduction would not be in bad taste. But there probably would be another school of thought on this."

Among those who recalled the incident, Richard Strasser was "The Army photographer who crawled forward under fire to make this picture later said it was withheld by military officials." Now in his eighties, he regrets not having sent a copy of the image to Pyle's widow.

Albert Martin, Last Known Widow of a Civil War Veteran

Alberta Martin, the last known widow of a civil war veteran, has died at the age of 97. Alberta Martin married William Japser Martin, a Confederate veteran, in 1927, when she was 21 and he was 81. William Martin died less than four years later and Alberta Martin married his grandson two months after that. Isaac Asimov died of AIDS. His widow, Janet Jeppson Asimov, reveals that Asimov acquired AIDS from a blood transfusion during bypass surgery in 1983 in a condensed version of his biography just published this month ("It's Been a Good Life"). Apparently his doctor advised that they not disclose his AIDS infection.
