The Australian Government's Blacklisted Website List

Wikileaks has posted the complete list of websites that the Australian Government intends to block under its proposed opt-out internet censorship scheme. The Government has flagged plans to expand the blacklist to 10,000 sites or more. Most of the sites have no obvious connection to child pornography, which is the Government's main justifcation for introducing the scheme. Wikileaks is one of the sites listed, as are some Wikipedia pages and "a slew of online poker sites, YouTube links, regular gay and straight porn sites, euthanasia sites, websites of fringe religions such as satanic sites, fetish sites, Christian sites, the website of a tour operator and even a Queensland dentist."

ACMA has issued take-down notices and threatened fines of $11,000 per day to websites hosted in Australia (so Metafilter should be OK) which contain material, or a link to material, on this blacklist.

The scheme is expected to slow the internet to a crawl (not a great thing given we're already lagging behind most of the world on internet speeds), will significantly limit the flow of information to Australians and will place the country in the same league as China and the United Arab Emirates.

Don't like the sound of this? Here's a website dedicated to opposing the laws. Think it's a great idea? Send Senator Conroy a thank you note.

Wikileaks cracks password on NATO Afghanistan document

Wikileaks cracks NATO's Master Narrative for Afghanistan
Wikileaks has cracked the encryption to a key document relating to the war in Afghanistan. The document, titled "NATO in Afghanistan: Master Narrative", details the "story" NATO representatives are to give to, and to avoid giving to, journalists. The encrypted document, which is dated October 6, and believed to be current, could be found on the Pentagon Central Command website "oneteam.centcom.mil", but that entire site is now down.

The password was "progress".

BNP members 'outed'

British media goes mental when someone leaks a list of British National Party online. The list is here as news outlets are wary of quoting directly. Given that membership of the BNP is forbidden for those in the Police force amongst other organisations, it's interesting reading. Their leader is interviewed on this morning's Five Live breakfast (about 2hrs in) on the matter, pointing out that as a party standing for election they are as legitimate as any other.

And given the legal controversy surrounding her email, one wonders if the fact that her yahoo email accounts are now deleted constitutes destruction of evidence or violations of public-records laws. Its hit Wikileaks too, but, I'm not sure they have more then what's already released (rapidshare).

Wikileaks Plugged

Wikileaks has been plugged. Get it? Leak... plugged. Brilliant.

Wikileaks, the fairly recent tool for providing both publicity and anonymity to whistleblowers leaking classified documents, has been censored! Well, it was already censored by China, but this time it's the Land of the Free (no, not that one). The DNS records have been deleted by Californian host Dynadot after a court injunction following action from a Cayman Islands bank. Naughty ol' Bush-appointed Judge White, apparently.

But don't worry, you can't stop the signal. There are zillions of mirrors. Look at them shine.
