What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
"hades" is the name I took in my high school latin class; the latin teacher would only call us by roman names or names from greek or roman mythology. It's been my preferred username since then.
I've been online since around 1990, when a local BBS had a UUCP feed. I can't remember my bangpath address, sadly. It may have been ...!halcyon!hades, but I may have been using another username at that point. Ah well. I got seriously hooked on net access in august of 1992, when I moved to a dorm at the University of Washington that had a room of heathkit z19-clone terminals. I spent all my time in various labs on campus, and eventually dropped out to take a job working the helpdesk at an internet cafe.
Now I'm a unix consultant for the University of Washington, having burned out fairly seriously as a system administrator for a couple of internet startups. Yay, academia!
