God, Mathowie: that must've been 1992 or 1993, back when the big apps were USENET, email, and gopher. I kinda knew gopher had something right, but when email really broke wide open in college in 1993 that you could pretty much tell something was up. If you could get my roommate (a semi-Luddite and future frat president) obsessing about downloads off USENET, you were really onto something.
