How can I disable comments on specific posts in my wordpress blog?

Can any of you recommend a Wordpress plugin that will enable me to turn comments on/off for particular blog posts? I'm trying to disable commenting on specific blog posts, but only seem to be able to turn them off on all posts. Is there a plugin that will allow me to turn comments on and off as necessary?

And, do you recommend any other comment plugins?

Thanks!

How can I make the most of a trip to Iceland in August?

How can I plan a trip to Iceland this August? What do you recommend to do, where to stay, what to budget ... and how can we spend money intelligently rather than in tourist traps, etc. I am hoping to meet a friend in Reykjavik this August. I'm flying in from NYC, he (is an Aussie) from Ghana.

We both love checking out natural wonder, hiking, natural hot springs, etc., but would greatly appreciate turning it out at bars at night sometimes, too. I know very, very little about the country, apart from the fact that it's both gorgeous and pricey.

What would you recommend doing while there? Any "can't-miss" things? Affordable hotels that may be a cut above hostels without being exactly opulent?

Any links, tips, ideas where to start are greatly appreciated. I'm not sure where to turn, but need to get planning.

Cleaning service in Brooklyn?

Can any of you recommend a good, reliable cleaning service in Williamsburg/Brooklyn? I share an apartment with a patient, understanding, laid-back guy. He's messy, but I'm a total slob. Lately, he's been tightening up on the cleaning, spurred on by his boyfriend. And I'm having guilt about this -- but am utterly incapable of keeping up. I'm rarely home and when I am, I don't want to spend that time cleaning. I just got a large raise, and I promised to cover maid service costs ... but am not sure where to start. We both rely on our computers and cameras, and I am a little gunshy about getting my laptop jacked, etc.

Can any of you recommend either a good, reputable service that will come to Williamsburg, Brooklyn -- or an independent person? Any cost guidelines, expectations are much appreciated as well.

Thanks!

Girlfriend's Mac in a coma

Why won't my girlfriend's MacBook start? It went to sleep when we did, last night, and when she got up this morning it was just: BLACK. This MacBook was just bought, brand-new, in November/December 2007. I was up reading MeFi last night, just walked away from it and went to bed. When we got up this morning my lady went to check her e-mail, and the screen was just black and unresponsive. The little white glowing light on the lower right edge (under my right palm, on the front) was on.

We tried all manner of keys, nothing. Held down the power button to shut it off, heard the whine of a drive stopping spinning, the aforementioned white light went dark.

I turned the machine back on, heard the drive spin and the little white light turned back on -- but still, a black and unresponsive screen.

My gf is *super* bummed right now, thinks her computer is dead. I am hopeful -- I think I've seen this happen before and it turned out ok. But what's going ON here? And what can I do to restore my girlfriend's computer ... and her spirits?

Thanks so much, guys ...

Where can I get good takeout fried chicken in New York?

Where can I get good, affordable fried chicken and biscuits in New York? I'm having a birthday picnic on Saturday, 2pm, in McCarren Park, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. And a birthday isn't a birthday without fried chicken and biscuits -- at least for me, a native Virginian. The thing is, I have no idea where to get good chicken and biscuits up here.

In Richmond, VA, Lee's Fried Chicken would have been perfect -- awesome chicken and sides and fast-food prices. Hardee's would have been a good backup.

But what/who's got the good stuff up here? I've had some repugnant heat-lamped stuff in Williamsburg before.

I just called a place called Maroon's in Manhattan, who'd want $140 for chicken, biscuits and collards for fifteen folks. That's a high price for me. I'm looking for chicken-joint chicken, cardboard-box chicken. Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

My MacBook's Internal Speakers Are Stuck on Mute

I can't get my Mac laptop's internal speakers to work -- they just stopped one day. When I press the volume adjust buttons, the little bars don't move, and the classic circle-with-bar-through-it appears. I've checked the volume in System Preferences, and the "mute" button is not selected by accident.
When my headphones are plugged in, they sound fine, and I can adjust the volume under System Prefs. But when I unplug the headphones, the volume control greys out -- and the Selected Output switches to "Digital Out."

I have a slightly older Macbook Pro -- a 2.1, with Intel Core 2 Duo, if that matters.

I've checked AskMefi, searched around, and I know this is not a unique problem, but everyone on all the threads I've seen has just said "oh, figured it out, thanks," without offering any explanation!

Please -- if any of you know how I can fix this, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks so much ...

From Threadless to Serious Threads, FAST

Where can I get fashionable, sharp-looking clothing in New York City? I've just gotten my first executive job, and I suddenly am not allowed to wear Misfits tees and Chucks to work anymore. I have to wear a suit and tie every day, nice shoes, and look sharp. It's hard.

I love vests/3-piece suits, looking for a suit/dress clothing that's slim fit, not very stodgy, something kind of cool, too. I realize that's a subjective word.

I found Varvatos to be WILDLY outside my price range and H&M to make stuff that's too small for my 6'2" frame.

Do you MeFites have any hints/help? I know this is supposed to be fashion ground zero, just don't know where to find good deals on good stuff.

Thanks!

Does that doorbell sound mean work is watching me?

Am I being spied on at work? IT got into my computer last week and now I hear a little doorbell sound whenever I visit a website that does not belong to the company ... I needed to have more memory installed on my (incredibly slow) computer last week, and had to have IT connect remotely. When the IT guy was done "cleaning things up", I noticed that my computer makes a doorbell sound whenever I visit a not-explicitly-work-related site. He came around to install some memory, and I asked him about it -- if looking for directions, checking gmail was a security violation, or what was up.

He claimed he had no idea, said to try the same thing in Explorer (am using Firefox.) Explorer didn't do it. But this is driving me nuts and making me so paranoid.

I work in the Web group at a large nonprofit and there's a LOT of downtime. I'm not sure what to think here, but it's freaking me out. What say you, MeFites?

Web Communities for Educators?

Web communities in conservative/educational climates: what are some good ones? I am doing some consulting for a large educational firm, working to develop "Web Community" or "Web 2.0" assets on their already vast Web properties. While they do have a large network of websites, they've been hesitant to adopt blogs, message boards, wikis and commenting on articles -- the backbones of Web community. I'm here to spearhead that change. It's slow-going, especially in a culture that is hesitant to open the gates to public criticism of its practices.

Can you MeFites help me find good examples of Web 2.0/Community elements to share in a brainstorming session set to happen this Thursday afternoon, EST? I use Metafilter as an example *constantly*, but in this case, I am looking for pre-existing websites with a high amount of content output that has successfully incorporated community elements. And, while the sites don't have to be related to education, it wouldn't hurt if they were, either.

My natural default is to use best-practice sites like Metafilter, Flickr, etc., but I think I may need to look closer to "home," thematically. Thanks so much for your help here ...

Affordable accommodations in Vegas?

Can any of you recommend a cool, affordable hotel in Las Vegas? My girlfriend and I are going to a wedding in Vegas, staying 3/21 and 3/22. The wedding has booked rooms at the Bellagio -- because it will be at the Bellagio -- but we're wondering if we can't find something cheaper that's walkable.

We're interested in seedy older vintage Vegas, love rockabilly/Nashville/authentically cool kitschy Americana. We don't need ultimate luxury, but would like to avoid roaches and semen stains.

Can any of you MeFites recommend something walkable to the Bellagio that beats $299 a night?

And while you're at it, recommend anything "can't miss" that's under the radar and really, really cool? Like cool dives, live rock bands, etc.?
