Christmas Lights In Vancouver?

Where can I find neighbourhoods that are lit up to the nines with Christmas lights in Vancouver, BC? Where are the better known places to go to see some great Christmas light displays setup by neighbourhoods? We live in Burnaby, so anywhere within a 40 minute drive or so would be great.

How many people actually visit my blog on a regular basis?

Google Analytics Question: Over a five month period, it's telling me I've had about 300 visitors who have read my site between 9 and 100 times.

I realize this is small potatoes in the World O' Blogs, but it seems entirely too high to me. Please explain how Google thinks 20 semi-loyal visitors (my estimate) is 300. Surely they are mostly bots?

Goodbye, Westend.

Help me find a great walking neightbourhood in Vancouver. So we are moving out of our dear 1 bdrm Westend Apartment. I do enjoy the ability to walk to most everywhere for everyday needs.

Alas, the baby is telling us we need to move. We're looking to spend around 250-275k for a 2bdrm, preferably close to major transit lines (skytrain ideal).

We are kinda settled to around the Lougheed Mall area, but I would love to hear any other suggestions? Areas like Commercial and Main and whatnot are great, just way too expensive. Are there little neighbourhoods we're not aware of?

Other places we've considered:
-metrotown
-brentwood area
-collingwood

Inconceivable!

Is there another book like "The Princess Bride"? I've tried using tool such as What Should I read Next and Whichbook but they don't seem to turn up anything that is close enough. At least, from reading the synopses.

I'm looking for humour/fantasy/romance with witty one liners and a memorable story.

YALT : Yet Another Landmark Thread

Landmark Filter! Ok, so there have been a few discussions on Landmark Forum, what I would like to know, is what texts/books can one read to get at the main chunks of its philosophy? Ok, so 2 friends of mine are into this. And I'd like to learn what exactly it teaches. Since I'm a book learning sort of person, and have no desire to drop that sort of cabbage to be brain wa-- I mean instructed, I'd like to read as much LM philosophy as I can. So far, the only book I've seen mentioned that is fodder for LM is the I, Ching. For those of you who have researched LM or have taken it, what books would more or less cover what LM is regurgitating?

Filtering through the crap.

Giving away stuff to the bestest person.[mi] So I'm giving away this antique sewing machine on craigslist, and I've gotten waaay too many responses. How do I find out who is most deserving? Or should I just give it to the first email I got?

I've got quite a few emails from ppl who seem deserving (i.e. someone who has a group of elderly folks who would like it, although, the email was written in all caps with horrendous grammar), but I have no way of confirming.

I'd give preference in this order:
Folks who have a group home/charity; family that needs it; person who is too poor to buy one and needs it; some person who just loves the look of it and wants to add it to their condo to complete the 'look'.

Any simple way to figure out which emails are for real? Are scammers (i.e. need it for my sick mom but really am going to sell it) quite common on the FREE section of craigslist?

I've also considered having someone donate x amount of dollars to y charity and bringing the receipt as proof, but I'm not sure how that'll fly.

Buying out a lease on a car.

Buying a used car. Basically paying the buyout of a lease. Am I getting a good deal? Standard kms for the age, 4 year old Mazda Protege 5. I'm basically paying $200 less than what it would cost this person to buy it out. Is this a good deal?

And for posterity, if one buys out someone elses lease, is it generally a good deal for the car?

Plaid Jacket Optional

Buying a used car in Vancouver, BC, dealers you'd recommend, or conversely, those to absolutely avoid? I'm fairly sure we are going to go with a 2002-2004ish Civic, Corolla, or Protege5 (now called the Mazda 3, IIRC). Would ideally like to buy from a dealer, as that's what the majority of the books told me to do.

We live downtown and don't have a car. Could any Vancouver MeFites point to import car dealers close by they'd absolutely recommend? Or help us steer clear of the nightmares?

Hopefully this question isn't too crass of me to ask...

1 month chinese baby celebration question. Ok, apparently the one month celebration for a newborn is a big deal in Chinese culture and I'm going to one tonight for a friend/acquaintance.

What is an appropriate amount of money to give in one of those red envelopes? I don't want to give too much, and seem extravagent (and hurt the wallet too much :) ), and I don't want to give too little and show disrespect.

Anyone have a range of amounts? I'm sorta lost. I figured at a wedding, you give about a 100? So I'm guessing 50?

This is in Vancouver, BC, and I'm married, and we are expecting, if that impacts the answer at all.

Programmer.getCareers();

CareerFilter: I'm a programmer, server side sort of stuff. Where do I go from here?[mi] It's sort of a two parter
1) What is my job track if I stay in this field? (As programmers get older, it's my impression they have to deal with all the young guns) Programming has always seemed to be a young man's game. I am still youngish, 29 fast hurtling towards 30.

2) Has anyone here used their programming skills and parlayed that into another profession? I mean, suppose I wanted to go into Dentistry? Well, my 5 years experience programming wouldn't be too much help. What sorts of work are there for people who want to use past programming in a future job?
