What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
I love MefiMail -- it filled a hole I didn't know was missing in my MeFi existence: a way to quickly, simply send a message to another user without having to engage a mail client. I often use it to say "attawaytogo" when a favorite wouldn't do (see more screed on Favorites, below). The short of it is, though, that if I randomly dropped you a MefiMail that seemed apropos of nothing, you really shouldn't feel compelled to respond. There is no expectation on my part; we're cool. Speaking of, now that I'm fully indoctrinated to MefiMail, I have a harder time remembering to check my Mefi gmail. If you need to reach me in a hurry, MefiMail is the way to go.

3-25-08: Please note that I am MORTIFIED to be called a backtagging superstar when I only was able to accomplish ~30 posts tagged before petering out. Folks like CKmtl who did loads of work are the real superstars!
3-21-08:After even further consideration, I think we should get Favorites and Bookmarks. Say what you will about the applause culture and popularity contests -- they are part of the site now for better and for worse, and I think it would be too divisive to remove them. But the "I want to note this but not applaud it" problem remains. And, you can believe that my motivation is selfish (ie. I just don't want to get rid of my own Favorites received), but you'd be dead wrong... it's AskMe Best Answers that I care about.
3-10-08: After further consideration, I think that "favorites" should instead be called "bookmarks," which doesn't presume intent on behalf of the user.
2-15-08:I didn't really have a dog in the hunt before, but after a few discussions about it in MeTa, I am now solidly of the opinion that the MeFi favorites feature has proven to be of damaged functionality. I am in favor of a new built-in system by which we can separate applause from bookmarks, OR I am in favor of the administrators making a declarative policy statement about how favorites should be used properly and under what conditions the feature would be changed. I no longer think this "use it however you like" position is practical in the face of what is clearly community confusion.
