What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
Plutor is pronouced roughly: /PLOO-tore/.
The handle "Plutor" came from one tired, bleary night at the Junior Leadership Training Conference at Camp Pomperaug. I was one of the instructors, and I slept in a cabin with all of the rest of the instructors, and one night we were just yelling shit back and forth. For some reason I started ranting about Plutor, Lord of the Plutons. They called me Plutor for the rest of the week. When I got home, I started using it in deathmatch Quake 2 instead of my then-handle "CheesePez" because I thought it sounded less silly. Over the following three or four years, it slowly replaced that handle everywhere.
The closest I can determine is
I started using the Internet sometime in 1995, while I was a Prodigy member.
This Usenet post from October 1995 is the oldest bit of evidence I can find of my presence on the Internet. From roughly 1992-98, I was also an active participant in the
BBS scene in and around Danbury, CT, USA. For several years, I ran a BBS with Renegade named
We Spell Vacuum With One U (briefly named Necropolis and RAMpage before that).
I never thought the Internet was for freaks.
I've written several
GreaseMonkey Scripts for MetaFilter.
