What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
I'm jacobw everywhere else, but another Jacob W. had beaten me to the punch at metafilter. So I went with the name of
my blog, which I chose because I am an American living in London. Yankee, fog, you get the picture.
Other stuff about me: I'm a professional writer. I used to write for an
HBO TV show, and I've contributed to
The Onion. In October 2005,
Andrews McMeel published a book I co-wrote called
The Government Manual For New Superheroes. It's a helpful guidebook to designing a costume, finding an arch-enemy, and ensuring that your secret crimefighting lair meets local zoning regulations. A sequel-- the cleverly titled
Government Manual for New Wizards--came be out in May 2006. And a third book--the still-more-cleverly-tlted
Government Manual for New Pirates--recently hit the shelves.
Lately, I've actually done more film work than anything else, but none of my feature scripts have been shot. You can
see some of my shorts online, though.
