Peppercake Orchestra?

Who are the Peppercake Orchestra? Before Christmas I saw a large group of buskers outside Borough Market in London playing a cover of The Mariner's Revenge by The Decemberists. I asked what they were called and I am sure they said the Peppercake Orchestra. However Google reveals nothing related to this name and I wondered if anyone else had heard of this ensemble?

Recommend boutique hotels in London

I want to stay in a boutique hotel over Christmas, ideally in east central London (not central central London.) The obvious candidate would be The Rookery but it is shut. Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Interesting ties?

Interesting ties? I've got plenty of nice work ties that are plain, striped or have a small repeating pattern. Who makes more interesting, asymeterical, contemporary ties for non-work occasions though? UK, preferably London, stockists.

Note: "interesting" does not mean comedy, novelty or Disney.

World Cup Watching

Where to watch the World Cup in central London? Ideally I would watch it all at home: I can sit down, see the screen, no queue for the bar, very little smoke, no one stands on my feet, the only person spilling beer on me is me. However I also have to go to work.

I work near Trafalgar Square and all my work locals are all pretty horrid. What would be a pleasant venue to watch the football in central London? Are there any outdoor screens?

What does the colour of UK police cars signify?

What does the colour of UK police cars signify? The majority of UK police cars are white with high visibility markings. However some are red and some are silver. Is there a system behind this?

I have been told that red police cars are armed response units. Are armed police differentiated in some way? For example, armed motorcycle cops never seem to wear high visibility jackets like their regular patrol colleagues but rather head to toe black.

Notes Towards A List Of Post-Matrix Films

Post-Matrix films?
What action films are clearly post-Matrix? Not neccessarily science fiction but probably. Guns, martial arts, wire work, bullet-time, excessive slo-mo, etc. So for example: Equalibrium and Ultraviolet.

Virtual bench

Virtual bench in London? Someone just asked me: "Have you heard anything about a virtual bench in London, somewhere where you can sit and apparently communicate with someone sitting on the same bench in another part of the world?" They are sure it exists but don't know any more details than that. Any one heard of such a project?
