What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
My nickname is self-explanatory since it is my name.
I started using the Internet in 1988 when I was 11 years old, and emailing somebody across the pond for example was a pretty cool thing. Although I had to pretend to be older in BBS systems etc., but that was pretty cool as well since I could really portray any image I wanted about myself. So I guess that was the first killer app, the anonymity and certain intellectual communism of it all.
Now the tables of course have started to turn - the older I get the more I feel like I should pretend to be younger than I am :)
I wonder what the first wow-factor was when www came along. I've always been quite interested in online communities and am a regular e.g. here (www.lintukoto.net), although you can't really understand it unless you speak Finnish. So I guess it's still about being able to meet people without the difficulties that we face in doing so in Real Life. And dealing with companies without having to go through their telephone services was a big thing and still is.
