What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

The deal with my nickname: "Je sourie" is the first-person subjunctive conjugation of the French verb "sourire", meaning "to smile". The subjunctive is used to express a mood of uncertainty or hope and often follows phrases that begin with "if." So "je sourie" means, roughly, "I would smile if..."

I'm a labor and delivery nurse. It's more than a job; it's a vocation, and it's the best part of who I am.

I'm a big fan of, in no particular order, writing poetry (some of which can be read here); reading other people's poetry; the music of Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, and other drunk, depressed guys at pianos; the fruits of Joss Whedon's creative labors; exploring how creative expression augments healing from and/or coping with chronic illness; Bruce Cockburn's earnestness; and the sound a pen makes when it scratches across textured paper.
