About

What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

Abortive post from the Scientology thread, because I'm too tired to fight it out (ironically, the post I quote is by Pope Guilty):

If you're against banning Scientology, you either don't know enough about it or are perfectly fine with both its bodycount and its long history of criminality.

These are hideous, horrible. I've read a lot about them and am always disgusted. But haven't you heard of the Crusades? Body count? Long history (of anything)? The competition is stiff, Pontiff.

I'm not a German law expert and don't know what a ban of Scientology would entail. But I think the American approach is right: don't have stringent standards of what is and isn't a religion -- that just enforces the biases of the majority; don't interfere with individuals' rights to associate with the religion they want, even if it's creepy; do enforce generally applicable laws, as the IRS has often aggressively done in the case of Scientology.

I've read allegations of abuse by Scientologists ranging from nuisance lawsuits, to tax evasion, to burglary, to what sounds like hideous death. The law should investigate and deal with that.
