What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.
I'm generally uncomfortable with internet usernames and this one annoys me. I hate nicknames in real life where anyone calling me anything but my given name gets a cold stare and sarcastic response.
Google tells me I'm not the only one with this username around the place, so don't assume all shelleycats are me.
I'm obsessed by science and a total geek. My education is a mix of mammalian physiology and biochemistry and my speciality is digestive physiology. If I post about biology I know what I'm talking about and can back it up with references. Otherwise I keep quiet.
Apparently I'm a taker rather than a giver, happier answering/commenting on some else's post rather than posting myself. I like new things though, and metafilter gives me many.
