I lived in an old house during my senior year in college that had maybe one electrical outlet per room. Between myself and the 4 other engineers in the house, we had accumulated a large amount of gadgets that needed to be plugged in. The lack of available outlets caused us to daisy-chain surge strips to unhealthy lengths, thus "too many plugs". I know this was dumb to do, but we tried to mitigate it by reducing the number of concurrent energy users per outlet. The TV speakers in the living room cracked every time the kegerator compressor kicked on in the kitchen.
