About

What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

Tuxhedoh, one of various phonetic-type spellings for Tuxedo- also the name of the "Linux Penguin". After using various forms of my name... dean_mck, deanmck - I wanted something a little creative. Back in the old BBS days I was real creative- and went as Mickey Mouse!!! It seems silly now, but back then it didn't. When I was deciding on Tuxhedoh I wanted some sort of Simpsons reference- hence the Doh. Then figured out various spellings once I picked tuxedo- Tucksydough, TuxSeaDoh, TuxHeDoh - and that's the one of pretty much stuck with.

I don't remember when I started to use the internet, from around 1993 until 1995 I was actively using the old BBS. Somewhere around 1995 I got a 'Net mag, that had a disk with it, that had some early browser software, but there was still no reasonable ISP in our area that we knew about- short of AOL, Prodigy, or Compuserv. When Win95 came out, and it was installed on my home pc, that's when I remember using the internet, because it came with MSN. I frequented various chat rooms, and services of MSN, but I don't remember going outside of MSN very much. It was sometime in the fall of 96 that I started actually surfing the internet. I was taking a comp basics class at college, and it was in the Computer lab, I remember downloading and installing PowWow. Also created my first home page.
