About

What's the deal with your nickname? How did you get it? If your nickname is self-explanatory, then tell everyone when you first started using the internet, and what was the first thing that made you say "wow, this isn't just a place for freaks after all?" Was it a website? Was it an email from a long-lost friend? Go on, spill it.

Choosing my real name instead of a nickname stems from seeing no real need to create a separate identity. I am who I am and don't mind taking the crap for it .

Also because I am quick to point out the obvious and frequent with the missing of the point.

Around August, a little pigeon flew up to the homing beacon in my head and presented me with a letter.

It looked to be an idea, hastily scratched on a piece of thin paper and tied to the poor little bird's leg in a less than gentle manner.

I was still feeling sorry for the bird when the idea leapt off of the pg and smacked me in the forehead with its simplicity.. The solution to all of my problems was right there, in hastily scratched (and honestly rather poor) prose.

It said simply this:

Stop wasting all your time flinging birdies and numbing all your feelings with powerful narcotics. There is a life out there to be lived, and damn you, The Clock is FUXING ticking.

So right then and there, with the poise and focus of a thousand Olympic Sprinters, I did what any sensible writer would do. I put on some ComfyPantsâ„¢ and went back to flinging Han-Solo Birdie at Empire Pig Nazis.

MetaFilter: Nobody knows what's going to be posted and then we talk about it. Sometimes folks fight about it because it's a sensitive topic for them; sometimes folks take a quiet moment to mourn for it; sometimes people laugh about it. Either way, we all move on from it whether we flagged it or not.

Sadly that was way too long - but it pretty much sums up what I've observed on the topic.
