The New Jersey Turn Pike, for my family in the middle of the 1960's, was an arterial connection to relatives living in New York. Along this cross section of Cold War/Industrial America...wierd factory landscapes, rainbow painted refineries, gorgeous multicolored smoke...was a beautiful, horrifying landmark: a huge military radome looming protective...threatening. As we passed by on each trip , my dad, noticing my rapt attention and remembering my fondness for a cheesey old science fiction movie - Kronos - (and to help pass the time on a long, frustrating drive...) would say, communications-radio-style, "Kronos to Earth...Kronos to Earth."....
