What the heck happened to the front page today? I have the Mefi Deleted Posts GM script, and when I visited the home page today there's about 18 deleted threads in a two and a half hour period, including about 13 in a row. They all go to truly deleted (as opposed to merely masked, which is what I like about this GM script) threads. What the heck where these?

Looking for the band/composer that created the songs on a tape I have. Song titles include "We can Rearrange the World" and "Goddamn the Empty Sky", "The Lament of the Corporate President's Wife" among others.
The tape had only a hand-written label on it calling it "Maestro Mix", and probably was made around 1991 or so. (more inside)

So, okay, what's the in-joke on this thing popping up in all and sundry weblogs yesterday: "What is real? 415 564-1347". I assume this is some new Jason- Kottke- as- Laurence- Fishburne thing (I've never met him, but I get such a 'David Wooderson' vibe from that guy).

In reality, however, it seems to be nothing more than a crass attempt to get a few bucks from MeFi's significant readership by making the link include his Amazon referrer code. In the words of the immortal Michael Stipe, "I call bullshit on that."

Someone better close this loophole before other people start exploiting it!

It may be just me, but in just the last couple of days I'm finding that my comments are being auto-appended with extra &ltp>, resulting in a few lines of blank space after my comments but before the comment footer. At first I figured it was just me being careless with extra &ltp> tags lying around in my post, but it's happening every time and this test post exhibited the same behavior. In the second paragraph, I typed the line and inserted no paragraph or br tags, and didn't even hit return to start a new line- yet after hitting "Post" there are extra &ltp> tags in the HTML after posting. Thoughts?

Could the user comments page (./search_comments.cfm?user_ID=XXXX) be set to return only the most recent 20 or so threads posted to, with an option to show the full list at bottom? Increasingly, I'll check the front page just to see if any new threads have been posted, then pop over to my own user comments list to follow up on recent threads I've been interested in and commented on (easier than re-find them on the crowded front page). I'm thinking this might help reduce server bandwidth and db querying, and return the page more quickly.
Unless I'm the only one that goes to my user comments page with any regularity, in which case it's not likely to make much difference. :)
