I wondered about Carla periodically out of fits of nostalgia after the Geraldine Fibbers dissolved. Basically anything she does is OK by me, and someday I hope she and PJ Harvey will form a duo.

In the spirit of the thing, here's two videos from my first exposure to her:

She was such a pretty one
she was such a real top notcher
always ahead of her time.

I like Carla. A few years ago she was playing out with a group called The Night Porter, and they were awesome, easily the equal of the Fibbers...but they never put out a record, it seems like the project fizzled out. The Evangelista stuff by contrast has just never clicked for me.

I don't know from this, but her cover Of Redheaded Stranger is awe inspiring.

I had no idea that Godspeed had gotten back together for a performance or were even planning to. I flipped out a little bit there. I haven't heard of Carla, but I'll be on the links. Thanks for the post!

Oh fuck yeah this is some good music. Thanks mrgrimm.... I've been working on some new songs all day and this provides an excellent inspiration break.

Huh. I have tickets to that show. Loved the Geraldine Fibbers and always liked her solo stuff. But it seems a weird mix to Be opening for GY!BE.

Jesus. Wow. Fuck. This is good.

Thank you, mrgrimm. There is nothing like that deep down singing, it is just like being beaten to death by velvet. I wish quite badly that I was at that show right now. If you would pause your burning hatred of us for just long enough to file a report that would be nice, eyeballkid.

But it seems a weird mix to Be opening for GY!BE.

Members of Godspeed (and/or A Silver Mt. Zion) backed her up on at least one of her Evangelista albums, if not more, so she has a little history with them.

I flipped out a little bit there.

Yeah ditto the not knowing about and the flipping.

OmieWise, I assume you know this, but just to clarify for others: it's not just a cover of the song "Red Headed Stranger," it's a remake of the entire album, done with the approval (and tangential participation) of Willie Nelson. And I enthusiastically second the awe-inspiring part.

Holy crap, this is awesome. The Evangelista stuff is soooo damned good.

Yes, I meant her cover of the album.

I saw Geraldine Fibbers in the late 1990s in Indianapolis opening for ... Joan Osborne, who was touring on her "God Was One of Us" song.

About 2/3 the audience ran for the lobby (many actually holding their ears). The rest leaned back and let the country-punk wash over us.
