Riverdale. Over 100 Craig's List Volunteers from Vancouver create a "gritty" fan film trailer featuring Archie and the gang.

Pretty awesome, but they should have used less overplayed fake dramatic music as the soundtrack. I'd like to see a re-edit with This as the theme song.

There really aren't any surprises there, are there?

I thought this was absolutely BRILLIANT way before I read this part:

We produced this and the 10 other comedic videos on a budget of $3, 500 over a weekend.

I'm only bummed it isn't real because I would love, love, love to see this film as a full-length feature. I am super-impressed and utterly enjoyed this. Thanks!

Yeah that was brilliant. But they really did need to pick different music, that particular piece is kind of cliche.

The other thing that's kind of interesting, you know how people complain about trailers that spoil the whole movie. The thing is, you can actually tell the entire story using the language of the trailer now. A lot of these fan trailers are actually not only interesting but manage to 'tell the whole story' pretty well.

Still my favourite Vancouver-made fake trailer ever: The Big Charade.

But... do they still perform as a band?

I am SO sick of whatever that music in the background is.

I agree they should've used different music but let's not go overboard. The music is Lux Aeterna by Clint Mansell
It's great music and was good in Requiem, but every damn person who wants to be overwrought and dramatic slaps it onto their video. It's played out at this point.

And I mean it's played out as a joke. It's just not funny because it undercuts the juxtaposition of the joke, especially because it's already been done a hundred times before. Stop using it people.

This is great and I wold love to see an hour-long fake mini-drama of it. But nothing will ever beat the Happy Shining trailer, which I found here on MeFi back in ought five. That link is now defunct, but this one isn't. Solsbury Hill has never been that funny....

Wow. What a great concept, and awesome execution. I can forgive the background music.

OK, P.o.B., the first comment on that link almost killed, me, "This song is played when CHUCK NORRIS BORN". And suddenly, not at my behest, I vividly pictured the bearded. booted and bejeaned infant Chuck clawing his way to his natal day and a great queasiness overcame me....

Gah. Unlike the E.T. Extreme trailer, which had a good sense of humor about how sacrilegious these new extreme remakes are, this just sucks.

It's shot well though.

I loved it. It was like everything I thought of as a kid when I'd read Archie comics, but never got the answers to.

My biggest pet peeve was the terrible styling for the girls. Cheap. Goddamn. Wigs. Nothing makes me wanna Hulk smash like shitty cheap wigs.

Much more amusing that I thought it would be. Loved seeing Jughead chowing down on burgers to drown his grief/rage/etc.

And the last little bit: IN 3D - perfect.

Yeah, that and the sorry fate of Hot Dog basically won me over on this.

We're worried about the cliched music when nearly every scene was cliche' (drop the flowers in the water, nerd gets rejected by cheerleaders, football player takes pills, etc,.). C'mon people! There's a forest in them thar trees.

I thought it was awesome.

As far as teen movies go, it still looks better than the Twilight movies.

Aren't we getting a movie based on a board game this year? This is at least as good an idea.

Yeah, I think the imaginative leap between the actual Archieverse and the Archieverse as it wuold inevitably be translated to the teen-drama big screen was spot on. As a lifelong fan, I say, nicely done. And I bet they had a blast.

There's a forest in them thar trees.

Making a pastiche/montage of cliched ideas can be quite creative. Using the same Mansell music that everyone else has used and heard a billion times is lazy.

I find your logic fascinating and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

The Mansell music is the eyebrows and mustache. It's the rug that pulls the room together.

I live in Haverhill MA, which is the home town of Archie's creator. People often claim that Riverdale was based on Haverhill.

Haverhill is actually way worse than the city in this trailer.

replica of Auguste Rodin's statue The Thinker sits in front of both Haverhill High School and Riverdale High School.

Geez, how many statues of the thinker were there in America's small towns in the first half of the 20th century? Another one was a major motif in the Dobie Gillis show.

I’m impressed this Canadian spoof trailer manages to include references to not one but two Canadian TV touchstones: Failed soap opera Riverdale (a happenstance of titles) and the immolation of Degrassi Junior High.

Maybe we could swap badly written newsletters?

I like Mansell's music. Degenerating it into a cliche is kind of a crappy thing in my book. Here's a thought: this was put together by some talented people, why didn't they spend a little bit of time to make some "DRAMATIC MUSIC"? Or lift it from the most cliched entertainment there is, daytime soaps. I don't know though, some people like the same joke told over and over.

I think that rug could've pulled the face together in a much nicer way.
