Many people have described the popular freeform game Minecraft as "kind of like Lego", so a few enterprising stop-motion animators have decided to jump on that idea.

Between myself, my kids, my coworkers and this website I spend about....15 minutes a day NOT thinking about Minecraft.

I managed to ween myself off minecraft, but now after buying some lego for the kid i have the beginnings of a serious and more expensive habit there.

Isn't Minecraft basically what they were building in Microserfs?

You know, I kind of vaguely desire a way to put decals/skins on individual blocks in Minecraft. That way, you know, I could build things that look even more like I intend. Imagine having glass blocks that looked like stained glass! It would be even closer to Lego.

It would rule!

You can dye wool blocks different colors now.

Stained glass would rock, however.

Also, coral.

I'm afraid to even try Minecraft. If I do, I know the authorities will eventually find my gracelessly decaying corpse still trying to swing a virtual pickaxe. Much in the same way that the holodeck will be mankind's last invention, so too would Minecraft be my last conscious choice.

I'm almost done solving this fascinating puzzle box I got from a Mr. Lemarchand. Once I've completed that I'm sure I'll move on to Minecraft.

Yeah, but what if I want a design on a single block, you know? It's hard to make a picture when it has to be about 100 blocks big.

*snicker* I really meant for single player...

I guess you could put dyed wool behind glass to simulate stained glass.

Also, darn you, Whelk, I was trying to stay *off* Minecraft for a few hours to get some work done. This is not helping.

Is anyone else hooked on the Yogscast videos? They're really showing off the potential of minecraft as an RPG engine. I wish notch would add more support for that playstyle (for example the ability to write on paper and in books)

Thanks to this post, I am no longer under the impression that Minecraft is anything like Starcraft or Warcraft. I didn't like either of those, but I think I could get into this!

I've seen a stained glass mod. No idea if there are plans to implement it in the official game.

Holy crap I love those guys.

My huge minecraft pony request is that you can send wolves out in the morning and they come back with a herd of sheep.

A pony would be nice too...

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who feels this way. I decided to play Haven and Hearth instead; fortunately, it turns out that HnH crashes on me often enough that I am still fed and hydrated. And I have no metal so I can't even get a pickaxe *sniffle* I want to build a cellar, damnit.

Minecraft consumed about a month of my life while I could play it. Since beta came out it hasn't been playable on my hardware. That's probably a good thing, but now I actually have a disincentive to getting a new computer. Thanks, Minecraft!

Choose The Sims. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose The Sims... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose The Sims. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got MineCraft?

BTW, Protip for escaping MineCraft addiction: Just think to yourself "Once I finish building my Hypertower, what exactly will I DO with it?"

Don't be afraid. I played for like two days and got really bored. I guess you could call that a success story?
