I don't know the first thing about dancing but I've never seen moves like those before and they were pretty amazing to me.

Best mefi post in forever. This is sex.

Wow, my wood paneled basement dancing was never like this...

I cannot even begin to imagine the amount of guts it takes to put on a skintight space suit, record a dancing video and put it up on Youtube. It's one of those unfathomable things like the those videos on Youtube that put into perspective how big the universe it. It blows my fucking mind. Wow, just wow.

Am now hopelessly lost in "Make your own zentai suit" websites.

Wow, I'm in Paris in 2006 all over again. There are strong elements of tektonik in both of their styles, and even a bit of good ol' "liquid" from the raver years…

So many great things about this. . . I'd say more but I think I need get my groove on!

Dude's a pretty good dancer. Why's he in a fake room built on a soundstage though?
posted by drjimmy11 at 10:12 PM on April 5, 2011

oh, and btw: the girl has excellent isolation skills (i.e., she can freeze and/or send parts of her body moving in opposite directions without affecting the rest of the body). That takes a TON of control and balance.

Awesome moves. Though my first visceral reaction was that the dude needs to turn down the overhead lights, because he's almost glowing white in that shot. And clearly not, like, this way.

Excellent. I declare this post to be the official halftime show of the burning man off-season.

Whatever I was doing in my late teens, I officially take it back and replace it with spending hours making YouTube videos dancing to my favorite songs.

Take Some Crime has videos with millions of views. (Literally.) And he's a pretty good dancer, very passionate. But I still get the feeling they're all essentially dance masturbation videos.

Dancing with himself. Indeed.

I was a competitive latin dancer in college and there are a lot of nice step-by-step learning videos for ballroom and latin. But for this sort of stuff there are a lot of youtube demo videos, but few decent instructional. I'd love to learn some of these moves--or more specifically, the overall flow, which is what learning a particular dance is all about.

OMG, she's dancing to Trash80 (who I discovered when tracking down the soundtrack to Darwinia).

I like the part where they get all jiggy.

The best part about this is I just discovered Trash80. That at the disco song rocks so hard.

Time to make an omelet! Yeeeaahhhh.

The purple stretchy space suit looks good on her, but this is not a style everyone can pull off. You might become a youtube hit for the wrong reasons.

Wow, there's a lot of Skrillex in those videos.

Do people on metafilter dance and post videos? I'm guessing it would serve as a prophylactic.

It would be an obvious addition to the MeFi Music subsite. But perhaps more painful.
posted by Forktine at 6:00 AM on April 6, 2011

The subsite would be called MeFi Dance Online. MeFiDO for short.
posted by googly at 6:32 AM on April 6, 2011

Man I just spent forty minutes in the car outside my office watching a bunch of their videos. That was everything that I love about dancing. I would give anything to be able to do that. I echo the comment earlier that someone needs to post an instructional.

Incidentally, I love his method for doing whatever he is doing with his long socks (drying them?).

I love how dance music has come full circle and we're living in Liquid Sky again. Also this new thing of hot young men posting shirtless videos of themselves dancing? More please! For a friend.

Because we seem to enjoy beanplating about community norms and standards so much, I think it would be MeFi DDR -- Dance Dance Regulation.

Words to live by:
Remember... no matter what happens ... whether being robbing at gunpoint, or witnessing the apocalypse.... keep moving those hips!
And a full-body (zentai) suit at Coachella? Dancing in the desert, where this year looks to be pleasant because it'll only be in the low 90s? I went a few years back and saw someone dancing in a full-on furry fox outfit, in one of the dance tents. Those places are friggin' saunas. I salute their dedication to dance.

Also, I want an "indoor forest" basement like his - fuzzy green rug and wood paneling? Yes, please!

Maybe I will make my own video, similar, but with my dance showcased

Wood paneling. Green shag carpet. Orange velour furniture. Drop ceiling with recessed flourescent panels. That kid's getting all kinds of action - forget the zentia suit and the dirty dancing, interior decorators from around the world are lining up for a passionate hate-fuck.

This is how I think I look when I'm dancing. I don't want to know how I really look when I'm dancing.

Also, can anyone tell me what that graphic is in the bottom left corner of the girl video?
posted by luvcraft at 8:44 AM on April 6, 2011 [1 favorite]

oh, it looks like maybe she's a painter and that's an original design?

Also, obligatory daft punk girl.

I'm certain that the current trend of zentai can be traced back to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
posted by The River Ivel at 9:55 AM on April 6, 2011

MMPR are just the most recent example of a vivid history of US dubbings of Japanese programs with much more history. In this case, the power rangers are based on the sixteenth installment of the Super Sentai franchise.

And according to the Wikipedia page on Zentai, the word is a contraction of zenshin taitsu (全身タイツ) ("full-body tights"), though it sounds similar to sentai (which is the Japanese word for "task force" or, literally, "fighting squadron").

There you are, your beans have been plated.
posted by filthy light thief at 1:26 PM on April 6, 2011 [2 favorites]

Why, thank you Filthy Light Thief. Of course, I was referring to the popularity of MMPR in the western world encouraging all-over spandex bodysuit fetishism in the current generation of young adults, who would have been exposed to the re-edited Super Sentai as impressionable kids around a decade and a half ago... I mean, there has to be some reason why, suddenly, it's dead easy to buy a skintight unisex spandex bodysuit.

Not that I own one. Nope.
posted by The River Ivel at 2:34 PM on April 6, 2011

As covered in this short documentary-ish video (SFW), zentai suits are more than awesome outfits for dancing, and get into fetish and identity statements/issues (anonymous, yet the center of public interest, especially when you're wearing a bright green or pink suit).
