The story of Shirley & Jenny is both heart-breaking & heart-warming. Thank you for posting these. Talk about an emotional start to the day!

The fat cat on the treadmill underwater could easily become a new rickroll without context...

But yeah, good on its owners for trying to help it, too.

I like the part where they play the Rocky theme.

Glad I'm the only one here in the shared office here this morning, because the elephant video made tears stream down my face.

Here's a follow-up about Shirley and Jenny. It is heartbreaking, but also quite beautiful.

Okay palmcorder_yajina's link just destroyed me. Such an emotional story.

Oh god, the exercise cat looks like it wants to kill every single thing in the room.

Doggie licking kitty for the win. Awww.

A thing I did not know about myself before the Internet:

I have an insatiable itch to watch videos of cats falling asleep.

Is it too late to change my life and work on an elephant sanctuary? I have no previous experience working with animals, I just think that elephants are the besst.

The elephant video was beautiful.

Thanks for sharing this, nickyskye.

From the elephant video: "I don't know who was the first to put a chain on her, but I'm glad to know I was the last to take it off".

Yep. That officially made me lose my shit. Elephants, man. So great.

Oh man, I could only get a third of the way into the fat cat on a treadmill before they ran out of bandwidth or something :(

I WASN'T DONE YET.
posted by Galaxor Nebulon at 7:45 AM on April 29, 2011

The elephant video was beautiful.

Kind of reminded me of the Shawshank Redemption towards the end...what with the freedom, 2 old friends being reunited, the music......and me crying.

Oh god, elephants. Something is really wrong with our conception of the world if we don't see them as our emotional if not intellectual equals. So great.

That exercising cat - if you ever wondered what a nervous cat looked like, there's a great example - dilated pupils, forward-swept whiskers, nervous lip-licking and the classic "slow blink" that usually says "I'm peaceful!" (and my neurotic one always means "...so please don't eat me!")

Hey, "Slow Motion Dog" was a commercial advertisement for a product. I would've liked some warning. I am allergic to those.

The elephant video made me feel all tingly and then cry a little bit. It probably would have been a little bit more had it not been so smothered in american cheese.

The treatment of elephants is one of those things that inspires a certain amount of melancholy homicidal rage within me from time to time.

From the elephant video: "I don't know who was the first to put a chain on her, but I'm glad to know I was the last to take it off".

That's what got me too. I am straight sobbing at my desk at work.

Huh, I have a treadmill and a fat cat—though not this fat, so the water wouldn't be necessary. Maybe I should try putting the cat on the treadmill.

Of course, there IS that little voice in the back of my head predicting some unimaginable disaster.

I was crying my eyes out too. Who could watch such a thing and not be truly moved? It's difficult & emotional on so many levels.

Elephants Reunited After 20 Years

This should really be marked NSFW unless you're okay with crying at work.

Also cried through the elephant vid, but what a beautiful way to start the day. Great post.

Man, I am glad to see so many people crying at the elephant video. I saw it a few years ago and bawled my eyes out. Then I watched it a while later and sobbed. Then it came on TV and I watched it yet again and, surprise!, cried a river. So heads up, IT WILL JUST KEEP DOING THAT TO YOU, BUT YOU WILL KEEP WATCHING IT BECAUSE IT IS SO GOOD. I skipped it today, having finally learned my lesson, but couldn't resist the update links. Oh guess what? CRYING.

On the other hand exercise cat will brighten even the darkest day, so maybe go with that one.

Elephants cry, too.

(Their tear ducts are on their cheeks, though, which is kind of weird.)

I made the mistake of going to the elephant santuary website, brace yourselves:

September 9, 2003
This dear note was sent by a three year old after he met Shirley on our site.

Dear Shirley:
I will give you ice cream on a plate.
I will give you one motorcycle. ONLY ONE!
I will kiss you on your ear.
